Dress Your Room with Runway Style

The language of fashion can be translated from the runway into home decor. Clients want to decorate their homes with the latest in design, so each season interior designers find ways to incorporate runway looks into the home. And why wouldn’t you want to dress your home like your closet? Following the tips below to get your home runway ready.
Get started with this season’s hottest trends:
- ANIMAL PRINT: All the rage in fashion and home decor and available at every price point. Don’t be afraid to bring that trend into the home with a animal print rug or throw pillows in a neutral color (as seen below). Try mixing large scale and small scale prints both in your home and wardrobe.
- COLOR BLOCKING: The chartreuse chair and bright blouse are paired with neutrals (i.e. pants and sofa) which work as a great base. Experiment with color blocking as we did pairing the turquoise blue and yellow pieces together.
- ACCESSORIES: Ah…the jewelry of the room and an outfit. Notice how the necklace (below) brings in all the tones of the look. Repeat the same idea when selecting a coffee table, pillows and lighting for your home.YOUR ASSIGNMENT – Shop your closet for your favorite pieces and lay them all out. Make note of the colors, textures and patterns you see repeated throughout your closet. Use this information to dress a room filled with stylish items you love.
To Get a Similar Look As Seen Below: Select your favorite pieces from your closet. Make note of the colors, patterns and textures and use them as a palette to design a space that is uniquely you!

A life-long fat girl, Sommer Johnson decided to strap on some fancy tennis shoes, wrestle into a sports bra that would likely be one size too small (they always are--that's what you get with big boobs), and go on a 38 week journey to run the Peachtree Road Race. In the midst of trying to find her healthier self, she found that her struggle was not all that rare. Between the full-figured audience of her online publication, Gemini Magazine, and friends who were rowing up the fat river with no paddle, Sommer decided to share her journey to help women like her get past their fears (and get moving--literally). A runner newbie, Insanity graduate, Turbofire enthusiast, and foodie experimenter, Sommer Johnson is a 32 year old mother of 2 and wife of 1 who lives in Atlanta, GA.
