Red Hot!

What better color to talk about during the month of love, roses, and candy hearts than the color red? I recently purchased a pair of red, cropped pants from J.Crew and am amazed at how versatile such a bold article of clothing can actually be. I typically allow my tops to be the center of my outfit’s attention, so the concept of this role reversal is new in my world. I mean, when you’re wearing RED pants, you’re like a mobile beacon leaving turned heads in your wake. Red pants get extra special attention when worn in a mostly conservatively dressed corporate environment amongst groves of black pants paired with black jackets. I debuted my red pants in a “buttoned” up fashion at a company meeting, and the first piece of feedback I received for my proud display of red was a co-worker yelling, “Watch out, hot pants coming through!” (I interpreted that as, “nice job incorporating a fashion trend appropriately in a business attire setting.”)
Aside from being a bold piece that will bring your outfit the attention it deserves, these pants are like a triple threat: they can be worn as part of a casual outfit, business casual outfit, and bold “paint the town red” outfit. Here are some ways you can rock out in red:
Casual: The blue and white stripes paired with the red not only shout “USA”, they make for a very nautical, summertime expression.
Business Casual: The buttoned down shirt keeps it looking business appropriate and the pearls add a classy touch.
Bold “Paint the Town Red”: When wearing such bold clothing pieces, keep the shoes and accessories simple and neutral.
So, if you’re looking for something new that will spice up your wardrobe without the guilt of a one-trick-pony kind of piece, go out and get yourself some red pants. Nothing says “Valentine’s Day” like legs dressed up in the color of love.

A life-long fat girl, Sommer Johnson decided to strap on some fancy tennis shoes, wrestle into a sports bra that would likely be one size too small (they always are--that's what you get with big boobs), and go on a 38 week journey to run the Peachtree Road Race. In the midst of trying to find her healthier self, she found that her struggle was not all that rare. Between the full-figured audience of her online publication, Gemini Magazine, and friends who were rowing up the fat river with no paddle, Sommer decided to share her journey to help women like her get past their fears (and get moving--literally). A runner newbie, Insanity graduate, Turbofire enthusiast, and foodie experimenter, Sommer Johnson is a 32 year old mother of 2 and wife of 1 who lives in Atlanta, GA.
