Carolyn Cobb

By day she works at one of Charlotte’s largest banks, at night she runs a successful vintage furniture and home accessories shop – CC DeuxVie. Fascinated by interior design as a child, it’s no wonder she chose it as a major.  This self proclaimed home decor magazine hoarder, painter, and crafter breathes new life into timeless pieces and has curated a home reminiscent of the Golden Age.  Meet Carolyn Cobb in her stylish home.

Ariene:  What is your favorite place in your home?  Why?
Carolyn:  My living room.  It’s the brightest room in the house and we have a great view of the trees outside.

Ariene: How would you describe your design style?
Carolyn: Hollywood Regency with a vintage flair.  I have a huge thing for vintage pieces, they have so much history.

Ariene:  Which piece inspired the living room?
Carolyn:  The two wing back chairs for sure!

Designed by CC DeuxVie

Ariene:  What was your best DIY project in the living room?
Carolyn:  The painted canvas.  I retrofitted a poster board frame for my canvas.  I didn’t want to spend the money on a custom frame so this worked well.  If I can figure out how to do it myself I will!

Ariene:  What item did you splurge on?
Carolyn:  The Crate & Barrel chaise.  But it was a wedding present.

Karl Springer rattan covered scroll cocktail table

Ariene: What was the least expensive item in the room?
Carolyn:  The coffee table from Craigslist.  It’s a Karl Springer designer piece and great find.

Ariene:  What is your most favorite piece in the room?  Why?
Carolyn:  The wingback chairs (they are mine too).  It was a lot of work putting the design together.  The black fabric was cut into separate pieces which required a lot of measuring and math, but it was well worth it.

Ariene:  Wait, are these chairs a product of your shop?
Carolyn:  Yes.  We do some upholstery work and custom pillows too.

Ariene:  So what does CC Deux Vie mean?
Carolyn:  CC are my initials and DeuxVie literally means two life in French.  It seemed perfect since our pieces are all being given a second life and this is my second life after work.

Ariene:  How could reader’s re-create a similar style?
Carolyn:  Look for geometric shapes, patterns, large pieces neutral in color.  Pick a neutral color on the wall and throw accents of color in every corner.

Ariene:  How would you describe the mood of the living room?
Carolyn:  In one word – BOLD!

Ariene:  What ingredients make this room your favorite space?
Carolyn:  All the textures, shine from the metals and bold elements draw the eye in.

Ariene: How do you decide what comes into your space?  Are you a ruthless editor of things?
Carolyn:  Yes.  I’m very picky.  When I shop I pick up items I love and find a place for them.  I always shop vintage for all my spaces.

Ariene:  But why the cow painting?
Carolyn:  (Smiling) Well, I painted the picture because I have a thing for sleepy aninmals.  Its very calming, soft and easy to blend into the background.  Its a statement piece in the room.
