Man of STYLE : An Interview with Panthers QB Cam Newton
Carolina Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton has had a meteoric rise from junior college transfer to NFL megastar. In 2010 he won the BCS National Championship and the Heisman Trophy, then was selected number one by the Carolina Panthers in the NFL Draft, and topped it off by being named the 2011 Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
What else could possibly top that?

Cam Newton takes a break from football to discuss his favorite Charlotte hangout, his ideal girl, and of course his personal style.
Tell us about your personal style.
I try to maintain a clean classic style with a contemporary twist. I’m always monitoring the trends and trying to incorporate those ideas into my look without being too over the top or flashy.
What types of things do you love to do when you’re not playing football?
I love spending time with my family, relaxing with my friends, and I’m becoming more interested in travel.
Where is your favorite Charlotte Hangout?
Cowfish Burgers and Sushi.
What does style mean to you?
In my view, you can wear nice clothes that are stylish and still be relevant. I think that is something that you are seeing with more celebrities [such as] Kanye West really pushing the envelope.
What is one stylish accessory that you cannot live without?
I participated in the Junior ROTC so anytime I’m wearing a tie, a perfectly tied knot is an important element.

If you were not playing in the NFL what would you choose as an occupation?
I’ve got a strong interest in children and would love to start a daycare center one day.
What do you love most about yourself?
My competitive spirit.

Someone who is trustworthy and honest.
What is one thing every man should own?
A nice pair of shoes that will match every suit.
You’ve accomplished so much at a young age. What are some things you would still like to accomplish?
I have numerous goals: reaching the playoffs, winning the super bowl, having a hall of fame career, having an impact in the community and am trying to take it one step at a time.
