Matisyahu Takes Hold of the Queen City

The Queen City was alive with excitement as Matisyahu graced the stage of the Fillmore Sunday night.  With co-headliners The Dirty Heads and Moon Taxi, even the rain couldn’t keep the fans at bay.  Twitter and Facebook were abuzz with pictures and shout outs – with the common theme that the Fillmore was the place to be in Charlotte this weekend!

The Fillmore, as always, offered the perfect intimate venue.  Moon Taxi and The Dirty Heads started the concert off with a bang and the audience was already on their feet.  The anticipation was pulsating through the room as Matisayu finally walked on stage and seemed to breathe life into the entire room.  The energy was positive and unwavering throughout his entire performance and seemed to flow through the lyrics of the Hasidic reggae superstar.

Matisyahu is unlike any other artist I have seen thus far – and you can tell that he has a deep connection to his audience.  His new album, which most attribute to the singer’s constant musical evolution, features everything from dub-step, to traditional world music, hip-hop, rock and dance music.  The amazing part is that he has the audacity and talent to mesh many of those styles into one song.  The concert was an eclectic mix of songs from his new album as well as some of his older tracks with a fresh twist.

Charlotte is just a preliminary stop in Matisyahu’s tour across the US to promote his new album Spark Seeker, which was released this past month from his own label, Fallen Sparks Records (via Thirty Tigers/RED).
