Trends: Art Deco

Art Deco

Coming from a family full of architects, I especially love the Art Deco trend that has been emerging in fashion.  Both Rodarte and Proenza Schouler’s Spring ’13 collections were full of pieces inspired by this graphic period in architecture and art’s history; while other designer’s have been subtly leading the way in this direction.  The trend becomes more modern with unexpected metal accents, such as chain mail and asymmetrical geometric shapes. These details lend a tougher feel to the beautiful patterns that characterize the Art Deco movement.  When wearing this trend, keep it streamlined.  A statement Art Deco shirt will work best with a simpler pant, and Art Deco inspired jewelry will be more appropriately showcased if it does not have to compete for attention with your outfit.
