It is also very versatile and can be used to line a variety of different structures including, ponds, swimming pools, chemical containment spill bunds, water tanks, gutters and other concrete based structures requiring waterproofing.
The relining of a swimming pool using a fibre glass liner is an excellent alternative to the more traditional method of resurfacing a pool with plaster or tiles. Fibreglass liners provide a longer lifespan than a tiled or painted plaster pool and are easy to maintain. They are also easier to clean and less prone to the formation of algae (which any swimming pool owner will know can be a major problem) as the smooth gel coat surface does not allow it to settle.

When relining a pool it is important to prepare the concrete structure thoroughly. This is normally done by applying a layer of polyester resin. A good quality concrete primer is then applied over this to block small cracks and pores within the concrete. Then a topcoat of resin is applied and again a good quality product should be used. Generally, the topcoat is applied with a brush on smaller scales and with a foam roller at larger surfaces. It is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully as too much resin can create a brittle and weakened outer coating.
